  1. Preamble (Mission Statement)

    Lambda Union shall serve to support, educate, and provide outreach and advocacy to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Questioning Community and their Heterosexual Allies (GLBTAQ). Lambda Union will work to provide education and programming towards better understanding of the GLBTAQ Community and will work with other organizations to obtain this goal. Lambda Union is a safe and healthy atmosphere that will nurture personal growth between all of its members. Lambda Union will create a mutual support network that encourages pride, respect, and trust among all members in the organization. Lambda Union will maintain absolute confidentiality on the basis of a member's sexual orientation. No "outing" of other members will be tolerated. As an organization, Lambda Union will strive to maintain an admirable standing in the public eye.

    Wright State Diversity Statement

    Wright State celebrates diversity. Our daily life is made rich by the diversity of individuals, groups, and cultures. The interplay of the diverse stimulates creativity and achievement in all facets of our existence.

    Respect, tolerance, and goodwill are the keystones to enjoying the diversity of our world. We are all linked to each other in a world created for all of us to share and enjoy. Each member of humanity has a potential contribution to make to the whole. It is our duty to encourage and promote that contribution.

    Wright State University is committed to achieving an intellectual, cultural, and social environment on campus and in which all are free to make their contribution. We will achieve and environment in which every student may think, and learn, and grow without prejudice, without intimidation, and without discrimination. We will achieve an environment in which personal dignity and respect for the individual are recognized by all.

    Wright State University promotes the acceptance and appreciation of every individual regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, ability or disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, or national origin. We encourage appropriate activities and events that foster learning about the diversity of our world.

    Wright State University will be a model for our geographic region, exemplifying that a human community can exist that celebrates diversity, enjoys the richness and diversity brings to our lives, and grows stronger with every new member.

  2. Membership

    In order to be considered a voting member of Lambda Union, a person must be in attendance of 50% of the meetings of the current quarter.

  3. Meetings

    Executive Board meetings shall be held every week while school is in session, starting the second week of the given quarter. Only members of the Executive Board (EB) and the advisors shall be permitted to be in attendance the entirety of these business meetings. Appointed officials and those members of Lambda Union wishing to bring issues in front of the EB will be afforded the time to speak the last half of the meeting. Only after the EB members have discussed all official Lambda Union business will others be permitted into the room.

    There will also be weekly general assembly meetings in which areas of outreach, education, support, and advocacy will be addressed.

  4. Elections

    1. Election of officers will be held mid-Spring Quarter on the Wright State University Academic calendar. These newly elected officials will take office beginning the following Summer Quarter.
    2. Other elections will be held on an as needed basis.
    3. In order to vote, a person must be classified as a voting member of Lambda Union as defined by the Lambda Union Constitution.
    4. Elected offices that constitute the Executive Board are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Office Manager.
    5. Nominations will be held at least two weeks in advance of the election and those nominations are to be posted in the office.
    6. One week before the elections, each candidate will be given two minutes to present their qualifications that he/she posses that would be a potential asset as an officer.
    7. The following week, elections will be held by secret ballot and shall be counted by two neutral parties.
    8. The President, or person acting as President, does not vote except in cases of a tie.
    9. The individual receiving a majority of the votes wins the election.
    10. In order to run for an elected office, a person must be an active member with 50% attendance in order to run for an elected office.
    11. Elections will be held in the order of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Office Manager. One must accept the first position offered.
    12. In order to run for an elected position, the person must be a student member of Lambda Union.
    13. In order to maintain an elected position, the student must attend every quarter - Fall, Winter, and Spring.
    14. Emergency election format is subject to change with a majority vote from the general membership.
  5. Executive Board

    1. The EB will consist of 5 elected officers. These 5 officers are the only voting members of the EB.
    2. EB board meetings will be open by invitation to members who may need to make a presentation.
    3. The meetings of the EB will decide quarterly the time and place of the weekly EB meetings.
    4. If the President is not in attendance, the Vice President will chair the meeting.
    5. The President and Vice President will call emergency meetings as they see fit.
    6. The EB may create committees that will be supervised by a member of the board. This member will report the progress of the committee to the President and then to the Lambda Union as a whole.

  6. Elected Officers

    1. President

      1. The President must be a student of Wright State University.
      2. The President must be a spokesperson of the organization.
      3. The President must be a visible Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning, or Allied individual to be a spokesperson.
      4. The President must run all meetings of Lambda Union and chair the EB meetings.
      5. The President and Treasurer must take care of all of the financial activities of Lambda Union.
      6. The President must meet weekly with the advisor(s).
      7. The President must maintain a minimum of 10 office hours a week in the Lambda Union office.
      8. The President must be in charge of all external relations.
      9. The President must be in charge of all campus climate issues.
      10. The President must attend EB training the summer prior to taking office.
      11. The President must faithfully uphold the Lambda Union Constitution.
      12. The President must work to promote a healthy environment for all members.
    2. Vice President

      1. The Vice President must be a student of Wright State University.
      2. The Vice President must perform duties of the Presidency when the President is unable to attend a function or cannot be reached in an emergency.
      3. The Vice President must run projects as seen fit by the President.
      4. The Vice President must coordinate room reservations for meetings.
      5. The Vice President must be in charge of internal relations and advertising.
      6. The Vice President must maintain a minimum of 5 office hours a week.
      7. The Vice President must attend EB training the Summer prior to taking office.
      8. The Vice President must faithfully uphold the Lambda Union Constitution.
      9. The Vice President must work to promote a healthy environment for all members.
      10. The Vice President will oversee any Lambda Committees that EB deems necessary for that quarter or year.
    3. Treasurer

      1. The Treasurer must be a student of Wright State University.
      2. The Treasurer must deposit all money collected by the organization.
      3. The Treasurer must pay all organizational bills.
      4. The Treasurer must keep a log of organizational finances.
      5. The Treasurer must present budget updates at every meeting.
      6. The Treasurer and the President must take care of all of the financial activities of the Lambda Union.
      7. The Treasurer must meet with the Advisor in Student Life as needed.
      8. The Treasurer must maintain a minimum of 5 office hours a week.
      9. The Treasurer must attend EB training the Summer prior to taking office.
      10. The Treasurer must faithfully uphold the Lambda Union Constitution.
      11. The Treasurer must work to promote a healthy environment for all members.
    4. Secretary

      1. The Secretary must be a student of Wright State University.
      2. The Secretary must supervise communications made through Lambda Union.
      3. The Secretary shall type the minutes and agenda of each meeting.
      4. The Secretary must be responsible for keeping track of attendance and monitoring voting rights of members.
      5. The Secretary must update the email/phone list weekly.
      6. The Secretary must send out weekly emails updating Lambda members.
      7. The Secretary must oversee maintenance of the web page.
      8. The Secretary must maintain a minimum of 5 office hours a week.
      9. The Secretary must attend EB training the summer prior to taking office.
      10. The Secretary must faithfully uphold the Lambda Union Constitution.
      11. The Secretary must work to promote a healthy environment for all members.
    5. Office Manager

      1. The Office Manager must be a student of Wright State University.
      2. The Office Manager must attend House of Representatives meetings.
      3. The Office Manager must be in charge of the book/video inventory and the organizations of files and information.
      4. The Office Manager must be in charge of welcoming new members.
      5. The Office Manager must be in charge of restocking the resources.
      6. The Office Manager must maintain Bulletin Board with the consultation of EB.
      7. The Office Manager must maintain a minimum of 5 office hours a week.
      8. The Office Manager must attend EB training the summer prior to taking office.
      9. The Office Manager must faithfully uphold the Lambda Union Constitution.
      10. The Office Manager must work to promote a healthy environment for all members.

  7. Appointed Positions

    The EB has the power to appoint a voting member to serve in a non-EB position. If the person accepts the appointment, they must agree to all responsibilities set forth by the EB.

  8. Impeachment

    1. Appointed Positions
      1. If a person does not fulfill their appointed responsibility, the EB will have the option of replacing that person or terminating the position as they see fit.
    2. Elected Positions
      1. If an elected officer is not doing his/her duties satisfactorily, the voting membership has the right to petition for the removal of that officer from office.
      2. If three fourths of the voting membership sign the petition then a hearing shall be scheduled to hear both sides of the issue. The officer in question will be given one week to correct the problem and a meeting will be scheduled to take place when that week has passed.
      3. After the week has passed, a vote by the voting membership will determine if the officer will be removed from office. At this time, the voting process will commence to replace the open position.
  9. Resignation of Appointed or Elected Officers

    1. Resignation of Appointed or Elected Officers is complete upon a written statement of his/her intentions of withdrawal to 2 EB members and the advisor.
    2. Upon resignation, all EB privileges are forfeited.
  10. Constitution approval

    1. The EB as a whole must approve the Constitution before it will be taken to the general membership for approval.
    2. A majority of the voting membership present at the meeting is required to approve the Constitution.
    3. Once approved, the Constitution may be amended by the EB with the approval of a majority of the membership.
